A sexual harassment case came into light when a blogger on Instagram shared a video of a man capturing photos of SpiceJet cabin crew underpants and legs when she was sitting on the jump seat. The Delhi Commission of Women has intervened in this matter.
SpiceJet sexual harrasment case
On August 10, a blogger uploaded a reel on Instagram where she told about an Incident whick took place onboard SpiceJet Delhi to Mumbai flight. The cabin crew was sitting on the jump seat and at that time, a man tried to capture images of her underpants and legs. This is horrible. Seated in close proximity to the man, the blogger observed this. But the flight attendant was not aware.
The blogger informed the cabin crew regarding this. The blogger informed the cabin crew, and they called a male flight purser for assistance. He took the passenger’s mobile phone and checked the phone, where he found out inappropriate pictures of his fellow attendant. The cabin crew promptly removed the images. They urged the blogger to share the video for the man’s mother and daughter to view.
This video went viral. Upon the aircraft’s landing, the passenger was transferred into police custody, and subsequent events remain undisclosed.
In the SpiceJet sexual harassment case, the latest update is that Delhi Commission of Women Chairman Swati Maliwal has sought informational from both DGCA and Delhi Police. DGCA stands for Directorate General of Civil Aviation and is the aviation watchdog of India. Swati Maliwal has asked this 3 questions to DGCA :
- Is the matter under investigation of an internal committe of the airline or DGCA? If not, why not?
- What actions were taken against the passenger?
- DGCA is required to submit a report detailing the specific actions taken against the accused passenger.
She wrote to police asking to send the copy of the FIR. She inquired if the authorities had arrested the accused. If not, why not?
Passenger issues apology
After Delhi Commission of Women intervened, the passenger has issued an apology saying that he apologise for this incident and that, he will never repeat such wrongdoing in his life.
