A 62 year old passenger unfortunately died onboard IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Ranchi. The aircraft diverted to Nagpur.
IndiGo Mumbai flight : Medical emergency
Yesterday, IndiGo Airbus A320neo registered as VT-ISE prepared to take off from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The aircraft was operating flight 6E 5093 from Mumbai to Ranchi. The aircraft took off after 1 hour of delay at 06:44 PM. It was expected to land at Ranchi Birsa Munda Airport at 09:00 PM.
The aircraft took off, climbed to its cruising altitude of 37,000 ft. Mid-air, a 62 year old passenger who was siffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Tuberculosis vomited blood. Looking at the gravity of the situation, the aircraft crew declared medical emergency and in order to seek immediate medical attention, decided to land at the nearest airport. The aircraft started descending while it was overflying Kurha-Mozari region. The aircraft landed at Nagpur Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.
The airport and airline staff shifted the passenger to the hospital, but unfortunately, they declared him brought dead. Rest in peace and condolences to his family from Times of Aviation.
The same aircraft again took off from Nagpur and landed at Ranchi Birsa Munda Airport.
Not the first incident
This is not the only IndiGo death incident, which happened at Nagpur Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. In this week itself, an IndiGo pilot, aged 42 collapsed when he was boarding the aircraft. He was shifted to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. He was about to fly to Pune. IndiGo said that the pilot had 27 hours of rest before the flight. He was about to operate 4 sectors that day. Nagpur to Pune was going to be his first.
An ex-SpiceJet captain, who was working with Qatar Airways as a Boeing 777 captain died onboard Qatar Airwas flight QR579 travelling as a passenger. He was special to SpiceJet as he was the one who operated the inaugura flight of SpiceJet in 2005.
