A woman passenger travelling in Biman Bangladesh Airlines business class alleges harassment by the flight purser. Airline has formed an internal committee to investigate the matter.
Harassment onboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines
On July 11, a lady passenger was travelling from Sylhet International Airport to Sharjah International Airport onboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG251. The lady was travelling in business class. Apart from this, she was the only passenger in the business class.
Soon after takeoff, the flight purser (male) started irrelevant conversation with her. He told her that he is a good dancer and offered to dance with her. He, even turned off the lights in the front part of the business class section and then, sat next to the female passenger.
Again, he started asking irrelevant and personal questions. In the complaint, the lady alleged that he tried to sexually harass her by turning off the light above the seat.
He even told her that he would be staying at ACT Hotel in Sharjah and asked her to visit the hotel. Before arrival in Sharjah, a lady cabin crew went to the business class section. Hence, the purser started behaving decently.
Complaint to Director
The lady was not able to file a complaint due to lack of security.
But she wrote a letter to Director and Chief Executive Officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal. She added in the letter that she will never travel with the airline from now on.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has grounded the cabin crew member. Deputy Secretary of Biman Bangladesh, Naoshad Hussain told The Daily Star that action has been taken against the purser.
The one member committee headed by General Manager Md Rashedul Karim was asked to submit its report within 2 weeks.
Naoshad Hussain assured strict action against the flight purser, if the allegations are proved.
