On 5th January 2023, North Goa Manohar International Airport commenced operations. IndiGo operated the inaugural flight from Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The airport is today celebrating its first anniversary. It has also enlisted some expansion plans.

GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), the airport operator is celebrating the first anniversary of operations commencement at Goa Airport. The airport has plans to expand its capacity to 8 million passengers. Within 120 days of operations, on May 4, the airport announced that it has catered to 1 million customers. Till date, the airport has handled around 4.2 million passengers.
Manohar International Airport in Goa is currently served by 4 domestic and 4 international airlines. Domestic airlines are IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet and Vistara. Meanwhile international airlines operating at Manohar International Airport are Oman Air, Air India, IndiGo and TUI Airways. The airport is connected to 25 domestic and 4 international destinations.
The airport started international operations from July 21. Air India shifted its Goa to London Gatwick services from Dabolim Airport to North Goa. In August, IndiGo connected the airport to Abu Dhabi with thrice weekly flights. Going forward, it received first foreign airline in October month, when Oman Air shifted operations from Dabolim to Mopa. Later, TUI Airways started operating seasonal charter flights between Goa and Manchester.
The terminal building at Goa Mopa Airport was built to handle 8 million passengers but the equipment at the airport was installed to handle 4.4 million passengers only. Now, the airport operator is looking to increase the number of check-in counters and baggage handling systems. This 3rd Phase Stage 1 expansion work will be complete before October 2024.
MIA’s infrastructure includes a modern passenger terminal building, wide taxiways, and a runway that complies with Code E/F. With a proposed multi-modal infrastructure that includes a 6-lane freeway and railroad connections, it is well connected. Passengers can enjoy a distinctive and lively Goan experience at the airport. 🔵In November 2023, Manohar International Airport (MIA) was listed among the top 15 airports in India by the Airports Authority of India. In its first year of operation, MIA handled over 3 million passengers.
Cargo Handling Feat
Since launching its cargo services in January 2023, MIA has processed 750 metric tonnes through its temperature-controlled cargo terminal, handling a wide range of commodities from vegetables to pharmaceuticals.
