Menzies Aviation has partnered with Bengaluru International Airport Limited to provide cargo services at the airport. This long term agreement signed between both the firms significantly expands cargo operations at Bengaluru Airport, projecting it as a cargo gateway of South India.
Menzies Aviation to handle Bengaluru Airport cargo ops
Menzies has won a 15 year long contract to provide cargo handling services on domestic flights from Kempegowda International Airport.
In this agreement, Menzies Aviation will form a joint venture (JV) with Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL). This firm will be called Menzies Aviation Bengaluru Private Limited (MABPL). Over all, MABPL will be the only domestic cargo handling agency at Bengaluru Airport.
Touching Bengaluru’s ambitions
Bengaluru International Airport Ltd had an aim to cater to up to 1.6 million tonnes of cargo annually.
Menzies Aviation will add a cargo facility at the airport. This cargo facility will have an initial capacity of 2,50,000 tonnes. In future, it can be increased to 4,00,000 tonnes. In a phased manner, capacity increment will take place.
At the already existing facility, Menzies will increase the international cargo capacity from 40,000 tonnes to 2,50,000 tonnes per annum.
Executive Vice President Middle East, Africa and Asia for Menzies Aviation, Charles Wyley said that this long term partnership will expand the cargo operations of Menzies Aviation at Bengaluru, which is a strategically important transport hub. Bengaluru is the cargo gateway to South and Central India.

WFS opened cargo terminal
On May 15, Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) also operned a cargo terminal at Bengaluru Airport. WFS won a 15 year contract to build, operate and maintain the cargo facility. Bengaluru Airport is the first airport in India, where WFS started operations.
