At the Wings India 2024, JetSetGo, a Private Charter Operator in India, announced the execution of a purchase agreement with three different Equipment Makers. The airline has gone for 150 confirmed orders and an additional 130 purchase options. The firm order has been valued at $780 million and the overall order including the options has been signed at a whopping $1.3 billion.
The airline has signed deals with three OEMs: Electra.Aero, Horizon Aircraft, and Overair. The aim behind this mammoth order is to enhance connectivity to smaller cities and upgrade urban mobility in metro cities. Here is a look at every aircraft ordered by the chartered airline.
Overair Butterfly eVTOL Aircraft
JetSetGo has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Overair to purchase 50 Butterfly eVTOL aircraft. In the whole order, Overair is the only OEM from which JetSetGo purchased the eVTOL aircraft. Deliveries of this aircraft will start as and when the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifies the Advanced Air Mobility aircraft.
Besides delivering aircraft, Overair will help JetSetGo in creating their upcoming Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) system. They will offer advice on building infrastructure, training pilots, integrating infrastructure & software, providing operational guidance, and incorporating vertiport software into the system.
The all-electric Butterfly aircraft has a capacity of 5 passengers. It can travel at a speed of 200 miles per hour. It has a range of 100 miles. The noise level of this aircraft is expected to be below 55 decibels.
In December 2023, the OEM completed the assembly of the first Butterfly eVTOL prototype. Now, it is under the testing process. Apart from JetSetGo, the other customer of Butterfly is HeliKorea.
Horizon Cavorite X7
JetSetGo has signed a deal with Horizon Aircraft for 100 of its Cavorite X7 aircraft. The airline signed a confirmed order of 50 aircraft and signed purchase options for another 50. As per the Letter of Intent (LoI) signed, each aircraft has been valued at 5 million dollars. The firm order is valued at $250 million and the total order is signed at $500 million.
Kanika Tekriwal, CEO and co-founder of JetSetGo stated that the decision to enter into an agreement with Horizon Aircraft was carefully weighed. They decided to work with a company that has vast experience in operations and aeronautical technologies. The goal is to launch a solution that will facilitate a new era of sustainable aviation travel while providing significant value to its consumers.
This partnership is expected to allow JetSetGo to penetrate new markets profitably. They want to accomplish this by leveraging the Cavorite platform’s versatility to deliver the goal of Advanced Air Mobility in India.
The Cavorite X7 eVTOL aircraft has a capacity of seven passengers. It has a maximum cruise speed of 450 km/h with a range of 805 kilometers. The aircraft has 16 fans in the wings system with 16 electric motors which are inside tandem wings for VTOL flight.
Deal Signed With Electra Aero
JetSetGo has partnered with Electra.Aero to acquire its blown lift hybrid eSTOL aircraft. This aircraft has a range of 500 kilometers with a capacity of nine passengers. It is a hybrid electric Short Takeoff and Landing aircraft.
According to Marc Ausman, Chief Product Officer of Electra.aero, JetSetGo is a leader in India’s private aviation business. They are at the forefront of implementing Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and have added Electra’s hybrid-electric short takeoff and landing (eSTOL) aircraft to their fleet.
Electra is committed to long-term cooperation with JetSetGo, which aims to foster growth in India’s regional transportation markets while also contributing to job creation and economic development in these communities.
With its unique features, the airline can use the eSTOL aircraft to pierce into new markets.
How Will JetSetGo Use These Aircraft?
JetSetGo is planning to use these Electric Hybrid Aircraft at 5 different points: Airport Transfers, Regional Connectivity, Intercity commutes, Intracity shuttles, and Urban Air Taxis. The airline is looking to take delivery of the first batch of aircraft by 2027-28.
Initially, the airline will deploy the aircraft from Electra.Aero & Horizon by using the existing infrastructure. It will incorporate Overair’s Butterfly advanced eVTOL aircraft only after proper infrastructure is set up in India.
Besides promoting eco-friendly travel, the airline expects a 10-15% reduction in per-hour operational costs. As always, the target customers will be the High net worth individuals.
