India’s leading airline, IndiGo is all set to resume flights to one more international destination, this time from Delhi to Hong Kong. The airline was long awaiting to resume flights after pandemic occured.
IndiGo : Delhi to Hong Kong
With effect from October 5, IndiGo will start connecting Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) with non-stop flights. The airline will operate these flights daily with the 232 seater Airbus A321neo aircraft. IndiGo is the largest Indian airline in terms of fleet and market share. Deploying a heavy capacity aircraft initially clearly indicates that the airline is looking at great demand.
This route is expected to cater to both business and leisure travellers. The airline is expecting to boost tourism with the initiation of this route. Both cities are great tourist hosts. Delhi has ancient monuments like Red Fort, Lotus Temple, India Gate, etc and is known for its cuisine. Hong Kong offers Disneyland, Tian Tan Buddha, Ocean Park, Victoria Harbour, etc to its tourists. Overall, this new route is a win win situation to tourists from both the countries.
Now, lets have a look at the timings of the flights.
IndiGo lands on this route with a heavy competition from flag carriers from both the countries – Air India and Cathay Pacific. Air India offers thrice weekly service on this route with the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. On the other hand, Cathay Pacific serves this route with 2 times daily flights. The airline deploys its Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-900 on this route.
As a result of this competition, it will be important for IndiGo to strike a balance between the price and product offering. Flight duration is going to exceed 5 hours. It will be interesting to see whether IndiGo deploys its aircraft with old seats or the ones, recently delivered with RECARO seats.
