The largest airline in India – IndiGo is now connecting Ayodhya Airport to both Delhi and Ahmedabad with regular scheduled flights. The airline operated its maiden flight on December 30 between Delhi & Ayodhya to mark the inauguration of airport services. Later, it operated a follow-up flight on January 6. Now, without any breaks, regular services have started.
IndiGo: Ayodhya Connection to Delhi & Ahmedabad
With effect from January 10, IndiGo started non-stop flights between Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Ayodhya Maharishi Valmiki International Airport (AYJ). This was the initiation of regular flights. As said before, the inaugural flight was operated on December 30. The airline is operating daily flights between Delhi and Ayodhya.
Just one day later, with effect from 11 January, the airline kickstarted Ayodhya to Ahmedabad operations with the Airbus A320 fleet. Ahmedabad flights are operated thrice weekly. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath virtually flagged the Ahmedabad service.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State for Civil Aviation General VK Singh were also present in the virtual ceremony.
Dressed as Idols
As part of the inauguration ceremony, four passengers scheduled to travel on the flight dressed as Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman. Many users applauded this marketing move, while many criticized it saying that the airline is making a mockery of Lord Rama. Some users argued that the passengers will have a tough time gaining clearance from the CISF security checking.

Network Expansion Incoming
Apart from daily flights to Delhi and thrice weekly flights to Ahmedabad, IndiGo will connect this airport to Mumbai with daily flights. Mumbai to Ayodhya flights will start with effect from 15th January. In this way, IndiGo will be connecting Ayodhya to three major Indian cities.
Just one day later, on 16th January, Air India Express will start flights between Delhi and Ayodhya. Similar to IndiGo, the airline will also operate daily flights.
Apart from Delhi service, Air India Express will be connecting Ayodhya to Kolkata and Bengaluru with thrice-weekly flights with effect from 17th January.
Another budget carrier SpiceJet has announced its intent to launch services to Ayodhya Airport. The airline has got a new lifeline in the form of Rs 2,250 crore funding. Hence, it is looking to expand its operations. Zoom Air, a grounded Indian regional airline has also asked for DGCA permission to operate flights between Lucknow and Ayodhya using the Bombardier CRJ jets.
