Girl sustains burns onboard Vistara
6 days ago, onboard Vistara flight from New Delhi, a little 10 year old girl was travelling along with her parents. On request of the parents, the cabin crew was serving hot chocolate to the kid. At the time of serving, the cabin crew failed to secure the lid of the hot beverage and the beverage spilled on the girl’s left thigh.
Vistara in a statement said that an incident happened onboard UK25 to Frankfurt. A child sustained injuries due to spilling of hot beverage on her body. The airline said that the child was playful during the service and hence, the beverage spilled on her.
As per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as soon as the child was injured, the cabin crew started providing first aid treatment. There was a doctor onboard who helped them and assisted the cabin crew until the flight landed.
This is a horrible experience one can go through. The burns were serious and hence, the airline arranged medical care of the child as soon as the flight landed. Vistara also assured that it will reimburse medical expenses incurred by the couple. The victime’s family said that the airline failed to manage the situation and that it poorly handled it. They further alleged that the crew member has not apologised. Meanwhile, airline said that it is constant touch with the victim’s family.
Vistara added that it keeps customer satisfaction and safety as its top priority. The airline is reviewing its processes to make sure that such incidents can be avoided in future.
Second degree burn affect skin’s outer layer as well as underlying dermis layer. Skin color changes may remain even after treatment. This is a very rare incident but a horrible one. Airlines should make sure that this type of incidents never happen again.
