FlyDubai, the sister airline of Emirates has surprisingly placed a Boeing widebody order. The airline since inception has been dependent on narrow body Boeing 737 aircraft for operations. Now, the management is looking to try something new by foraying into the widebody market segment.
FlyDubai goes the Boeing 787 way
During the ongoing Dubai Airshow, Dubai-based FlyDubai placed a surprisingly order. The all narrowbody operator placed an order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets. The state-of-the-art widebody aircraft, Boeing 787-9, is capable of flying to long-haul destinations for the airline. The airline will use this aircraft to open up new long haul routes. Futhermore, it will allow the airline to add capacity across its short haul & medium haul network. The deal for 30 Dreamliners has been valued at $11 billion.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said : “Back in 2008, when we, the leadership at flydubai, placed our initial order for 50 Boeing 737 aircraft, we had great confidence in the vital role flydubai would play in supporting Dubai’s aviation hub. Today, I am filled with pride as I witness flydubai’s evolution, surpassing labels and challenging the traditional norms around travel”.
“This latest order is a clear affirmation of flydubai’s unwavering commitment to facilitating more people in their travels across our expanding network. Flydubai is set to open new horizons with the acquisition of the highly fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner, allowing us to cater to the growing demand on our existing routes.”.
President & CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Stan Deal said : “The 787-9 is just what flydubai needs! It’s perfect for opening up new, longer routes and adding more seats across their network. When you fly with flydubai on the Dreamliner, it’s like no other experience in the air. You get to your destination feeling super refreshed because of the extra comfort. We’re really proud that flydubai trusts our planes and uses an all-Boeing fleet. We’re excited to keep building this partnership and see our 787-9 Dreamliners become a big part of flydubai’s plan to grow and expand”.
