Moroccan national carrier, Royal Air Maroc is planning to expand its fleet to about 200 aircraft by 2037.
In national capital Rabat, Royal Air Maroc signed the 2023-2037 program. Chief Executive Officer of Royal Air Maroc Abdehamid Addou and Head of the Moroccan Government, Aziz Akhennouch signed the program.
Royal Air Maroc plans for 200 aircraft
As of today i.e. 22nd July, the airline has a fleet of about 50 aircraft. This comprises of 6 ATR 72, 30 Boeing 737, 1 Boeing 767 Freighter, 9 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 4 Embraer ERJ-190.
By year 2037, the airline is aiming to add net 150 aircraft and take the airline’s fleet to 200.
Currently, the airline is carrying approximately 7.5 million passengers annually. By 2037, it is projecting to transport 31.6 million passengers per annum.
With gradual fleet expansion, the airline will continue to add flights to newer destinations. The airline plans to add around 108 new destinations across the world.
This includes :
- 73 in Europe
- 12 in Africa
- 10 in Asia and the Middle East
Along with this, the airline will continue to bolster its domestic market by adding 46 domestic routes to better connect Morocco.
A new era for Royal Air Maroc
Mr. Abdelhamid ADDOU, CEO of Royal Air Maroc said that this new stage in the airline’s development builds on a history of challenges overcome since its inception. He added that we are the result of an incredible human and technological adventure built by previous generations in service to national sovereignty.
This new contract signed reflects the renewed trust of the Moroccan state in the airline. The journey forward will challenge a new generation of employees of the airline.
The airline is expected to shift from being a traditional company with a regional carrier image to a global carrier committed to higher growth rate.
