Pilot, who operated the inaugural flight of SpiceJet Airlines has died yesterday while travelling with Qatar Airways. The aircraft diverted to Dubai to seek medical attention.
Start with SpiceJet, End with Qatar Airways
In 2005, SpiceJet operated its inaugural flight. The pilot, who captained this inaugural flight has died yesterday. He was travelling onboard Qatar Airways flight QR579 from Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) as a passenger. Mid-air, he fell ill and needed medical attention. Looking at the seriousness of the matter, the pilots declared medical emergency.
The Airbus A350-900 diverted to Dubai International Airport; however, the medical team couldn’t save the Senior Captain. On May 23rd 2005, he operated the maiden flight of SpiceJet from Delhi to Ahmedabad. After spending 17 years in SpiceJet, he moved on to Qatar Airways and started flying the widebody Boeing 777 aircraft.
He also served Alliance Air for some time in his career. His sudden demise shocked his friends at SpiceJet who mentioned he was fit and fine. His ultimate demise comes as a big shock for everyone.
On January 8, 2014, a SpiceJet pilot who was operating flight from Mumbai to Hyderabad was medically incapacitated. The reason behind that incident was self medication. Pilots should consult their doctor before taking any medication. Some medicines may have side effects not suited for the conditions in which pilots work.
Death of 2 pilots in a single day
Yesterday, apart from this case, a pilot died onboard LATAM airlines flight from Miami International Airport to Chile International Airport. 56 year old captain Ivan Andaur was flying the aircraft. When he went to the bathroom, he collapsed as he suffered from a cardiac arrest. The aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Panama Airport. Unfortunately, they could not save him.
As the captain required medical attention, the co-pilot or say the First Officer made the emegency landing. To all those passengers, who think that only captain can fly the aircraft. This is the perfect example to show that both the pilots are qualified to fly the aircraft.
