British Airline easyJet has placed an order with European manufacturer Airbus for additional Airbus A320 neo jets. This comes in line with the airline’s fleet renewal plan.
easyJet orders more Airbus A320
London headquarterd airline – easyJet has placed an order of 157 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The fully firm order includes purchase agreement of 56 Airbus A320neo and 101 Airbus A321neo aircraft. Apart from this, this order includes upgrading order of 35 Airbus A320neo jets to larger Airbus A321neo variant.
The airline has continued to maintain its focus on sustainability. An Airbus A320neo family aircraft is capable of operating with up to 50 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus, the European manufacturer is aiming that all its aircraft can operate with 100 percent SAF by 2030.
easyJet will use these new aircraft for replacing the older generation jets. This will help it improving overall efficiency and reducing overall carbon emissions.
Growth along with fleet renewal
Chief Executive Officer of easyJet Johan Lundgren expressed his excitement announcing the new order. He said that this order along with renewing the airline’s fleet will also help the airline’s growth trajectory.
He said – We are very happy to be able to confirm this significant order, which not only allows us to upgauge—a significant opportunity that comes with upgauging—but also allows easyJet to replace its older aircraft with more efficient aircraft, a core component of our net zero roadmap. We are excited to collaborate with Airbus in the upcoming years since this order will enable easyJet to maintain its dominant position at Europe’s major airports.
According to Christian Scherer, Airbus’s Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, the firm is thrilled to be partnering with easyJet on its fleet renewal and expansion. EasyJet is able to set itself apart in its competitive market by providing the most contemporary, luxurious, and state-of-the-art aircraft thanks to its Airbus fleet. EasyJet and Airbus are both ardent supporters of the aviation industry’s decarbonization. This large purchase of the most fuel-efficient and SAF-capable aircraft is evidence of our shared commitment to this goal.
He thanked easyJet for continuing its trust. The Airbus A320neo family has gathered around 18,000 orders from more than 140 customer globally. As of today, around 100 global airlines and lessors have ordered 5,600 Airbus A321neo jets. In comparison to earlier generation single-aisle aircraft, the A321neo reduces noise by 50% and saves over 20% on fuel and CO2 emissions because to the addition of Sharklets and new generation engines. It also maximizes passenger comfort with the biggest single-aisle cabin in the sky.
All Airbus operator
easyJet is one of the few airlines in world which is operating an all Airbus fleet. The Low Cost Carrier has a fleet of 171 Airbus narrowbody jets. This includes a fleet of 47 Airbus A319, 114 Airbus A320 and 10 Airbus A321. The Airbus A320 fleet consists of 77 Airbus A320ceos and 37 new generation neos. Currently, 3 Airbus A320neos are under production registered as G-UZLR, G-UZLS & G-UZLT.
Till 2011, it operated a fleet of Boeing 737 as well. It operated a total of 84 Boeing 737.
