India’s youngest airline – Akasa Air in 2023 had introduced a Braille In-Flight Safety Manual and Dining Menu for visually impaired passengers on the occassion of World Braille Day. 4th January is memorated as the ‘World Braille Day’.
Akasa Air : Braille Manual and Menu
In partnership with Xavier’s Resource Centre for Visually Challenged (XRCVC), Akasa Air had launched an in-flight safety manual and dining menu in Braille script. The aim was to enhance inclusivity for visually challenged passengers. It launched this Manuals and Menu in 2023.
The Braille In-Flight Safety Manual consists of instructions in two languages – Hindi and English. It provide all the needed information i a detailed manner. For examples, the location of emergency exits, operations of seatbelt, life jackets location and diagrams along with other safety information.
Similar to the safety manual, the dining menu has been scripted in Braille as well. This Braille Dining Menu includes variety of food choices including snacks and beverages. Akasa Air has partnered with Borecha to serve Kombucha onboard the aircraft.

Nearing a Three Digit Order
Akasa Air is all set to order 150 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, as per reports from various publications. The airline is in final talks with Boeing for signing of agreement. Contractual negotiations are ongoing. The deal is expected to be signed at Wings India Air Show 2024. The airshow will be held between January 18 to January 21 at Hyderabad Begumpet Airport. Air India and Boeing will showcase their Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X respectively at the airshow.
In December 2023, Akasa Air took deliveries of 2 Boeing 737 MAX jets. Overall, the airline received deliveries of 8 aircraft in year 2023. In August, it became India’s first airline to induct the Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 high density variant. The airline became the fastest to reach a fleet of 20 aircraft. It achieved a fleet of 20 jets within first year of operations.
