Cochin International Airport Limited, the operator of Kochi Airport in Kerala, India has partnered with Alliance Air to enhance domestic connectivity from the airport. As part of the agreement, Alliance Air will connect the airport to four major cities in Southern India.
Cochin Airport Partnership With Alliance Air
As part of the agreement signed between Alliance Air and Cochin Airport Authorities, the airline will boost domestic connectivity from the airport. It will launch new routes as follows:
- Kochi – Kannur – Kochi
- Kochi – Mysuru – Kochi
- Kochi – Trichy – Chennai – Trichy – Kochi
- Kochi – Mysuru – Tirupati – Mysuru – Kochi
Bookings for these routes will be available soon on the airline portal. This initiative is in line with the ambitions of Kochi Airport to increase its presence in the Tier-2 domestic market. The Chief Minister of the state Pinarayi Vijayan has outlined a plan to expand the connectivity from the airport. He is also one of the board of directors in the Airport Operator company.
To enable late-night and early-morning services for this flight, the airport authorities have allocated an overnight parking slot at the domestic apron. This will help the airline to base one of its ATR 72 at Kochi Airport.
The current network of Alliance Air from Kochi Airport includes flights to three destinations. It operates twice daily to Bengaluru, once daily to Agatti Island, and thrice weekly to Salem. Services to Salem Airport started in October 2023.
With effect from January 21, the airline will increase the frequency of the Kochi to Agatti route from 7X weekly to 9X weekly. This twice-weekly addition is a result of the recent peak witnessed in Lakshadweep tourism. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged tourists to explore the beauty of Lakshadweep.
Growth of Kochi Airport
Kochi Airport, since it has gone through upgradation has witnessed steady growth. It is the only airport in Kerala to handle 10 million passengers. In South India, it is the fourth airport to do so. As per the current winter schedule, the airport is catering to 1,360 weekly flights across 40 domestic and international destinations.
The airport will soon witness a surge in number of flights to Thailand. From March, Thai Airways International will introduce thrice weekly flights to the airport. Thai AirAsia already connects Kochi to Bangkok with daily flights. It is expected to increase frequency to 10X weekly.
The airport authorities are also in talks with airlines like Lufthansa, British Airways, Qantas, and Air New Zealand to start services. Earlier, there were reports that British Airways was looking at Kochi International Airport for its next services. But it never turned into reality.
