Brazilian Airlines Azul Linhas Aereas has announced that it will continue its journey without the Airbus A350 aircraft. The aircraft will be de-registered from October 2023.
Azul to de-register Airbus A350
Before knowing the reason and future plans, lets have a quick look on the Airbus A350 fleet of Azul.
Azul Linhas Aereas has a fleet of 2 Airbus A350s. Both of them were inducted last year – one in September and other one in December.
In 2014, Azul placed an order of 5 Airbus A350 aircraft. The Airbus widebodies were about to be delivered in 2017, when the airline entered into a financially unstable phase. It eventually made a decision to cancel the order.
In 2022, Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines was also struggling financially. Hainan Airlines had a stake in Azul. The Airbus A350s of Hainan Airlines were parked at Tarbes. And Azul’s Airbus A330 fleet was very old.
Because of this, Azul made a decision to acquire some Airbus A350s from its partner airline.
Azul received delivery of both A350s last year. Both aircraft are around 6 years old.
Registration : PR-AOW and PR-AOY
De-registration when and recovery?
The airline will de-register both of these aircraft in October this year.
The airline has deployed its Airbus A350 on 2 routes :
- Campinhas to Paris Orly
- Campinhas to Orlando
Flights to Orly are scheduled until October 2 and Orlando are scheduled until October 28.
Azul will not cancel this routes but will cover them with the Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A330-900neo aircraft.
With the retirement of 2 Airbus A350s, the airline will remain with a fleet of only 9 Airbus widebodies. This comprises of 4 Airbus A330-200 and 5 Airbus A330-900.
It will be interesting to see the future of these widebody aircraft. There is a lot of demand for A350 in the market given the fuel efficiency of the aircraft. Hainan Airlines has also retired all of its Airbus A350s.
