India’s Newest Airlines, Akasa Air is all set to order 150 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets. The deal is expected to be signed at Wings India Air Show 2024. The much talked about three digit order is near.
Akasa Air : Next Boeing 737 MAX Order
In 2022, Officials from Akasa Air unveiled the airline plans to order a three digit order of Narrowbody aircraft. The order was earlier expected to be placed at Paris Air Show. The airline made a deal in Paris Air Show but for just 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets.
Now, as per reports, Akasa Air is all set to order 150 Boeing 737 MAX jets. Talks between the airline and Boeing Commercial are in final stage.
The deal is expected to be signed at Wings India Airshow 2024. Wings India 2024 will be held at Hyderabad Begumpet Airport from January 18 to January 21. This airshow is held every year. Air India will showcase its first Airbus A350 for the airshow visitors. Boeing will fly its future widebody aircraft – Boeing 777X for the airshow.
With this new aircraft, the airline will be increasing its domestic as well as international network.
In August 2022, Akasa Air received the delivery of 20th Boeing 737 MAX 8. With this delivery, the airline became eligible to start International flights. In September, it was officially declared as an International Airline after permission from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The airline is currently in process to receive approvals from foreign authorities. In first phase of international entry, the airline has rights to fly to Doha, Kuwait, Jeddah and Riyadh. Continuing to next phases, it will look at Southeast Asian region and neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
In October 2021, Akasa Air signed its first ever aircraft order with Boeing Commercial at Dubai Airshow. It ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX jets and placed an engine order as well. In June 2022, the airline extended this order from 72 to 76 by signing a binding agreement for 4 more MAX jets. It currently has a fleet of 22 Boeing 737 MAX jets. 2 jets were delivered last month. By March 2024, the airline is aiming to take delivery of 4 more aircraft. It wants to end this year with 35 percent growth in domestic network.
