Akasa Air, which has huge international ambitions is slowly progressing towards the announcement of its first international services. Following its developments in Qatar, the airline has now appointed a General Sales Agent in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The airline has regulator authorization to fly to two Saudi cities.
Al-Maha United Travel: GSA for Akasa Air
Al-Maha United Travel has partnered with Akasa Air to be its General Sales Agent (GSA) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is a Jeddah-based travel management company that falls under the Ajman National Travel Agency.
The collaboration between both focuses on strengthening the sales and marketing efforts of Akasa Air in Saudi Arabia. The General Sales Agent will help the airline gain the much-needed initial boost by effectively engaging with potential customers as Akasa enters the region. Al-Maha UT will serve as a strategic and integral partner to the airline.
Announcing the collaboration, Akasa Air Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer Praveel Iyer said that the airline is delighted to bring Al-Maha United Travel onboard to fuel the airline’s plans in Saudi Arabia. Given the Kingdom’s expanding economic significance and Akasa’s strategic interest in Saudi Arabia, this move strengthens the airline’s network offering from India to international locations.
First GSA in Saudi Arabia
With Al-Maha United Travel as the debut foreign GSA, the airline is confident that this relationship will considerably strengthen its in-market sales and marketing efforts. It is looking forward to extending its sales and distribution network to clients in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, providing them with the characteristic Akasa experience, which includes a variety of industry-first, customer-friendly products and services at the most competitive prices.
On the other hand, General Manager for Al-Maha United Travel Bassam Abdu Al Assiri said that the travel agency is proud to partner with the airline. It is looking forward to the commencement of Akasa Air’s international operations. The airline will contribute more flights to the India-Saudi Arabia aviation map, which aligns perfectly with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative.
Al-Maha United Travel is a reputed travel agent in the Gulf region. It is the GSA of Air India Express in the UAE. As per its website, the travel agency has a turnover of $206 million alone from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It has more than 50 offices in the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. It is a member of Ajman National Travel Agency owned by UAE-based Al-Ghurair Investment Company.
Akasa Air’s Latest International Developments
Akasa Air recently appointed a General Sales Agent in Qatar as well. In Qatar, the airline chose Space Travel as its GSA. Space Travel falls under the Mannai Group. It will help the airline to launch operations in Qatar.
The airline became eligible to launch international operations in August 2023, when it received delivery of its 20th aircraft. Globally, it became the fastest airline to reach a fleet of 20 aircraft within a year. In September, it received authorization to start international flights in the form of an International Air Permit.
In Phase I, the airline intends to start flights to 4 destinations in the Gulf. These are Riyadh, Jeddah, Qatar, and Kuwait. In the next phase, it will look at neighboring countries and Southeast Asian destinations.
The airline, in Wings India 2024 placed an order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This order comprises the MAX 8-200 and MAX 10 models. These aircraft will ensure steady deliveries for Akasa Air till 2032. With this order, it has become the fastest airline to have an order book equating to 200 aircraft. It achieved this feat in 17 months.
