Air India has revealed its new uniforms for pilots and cabin crews. It is not sure whether Air India Express employees will adorn the same uniform. Let us have a look at the new uniforms.
Air India new uniform
The new uniform of Air India was long awaited. During the livery launch ceremony, Air India Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson hinted at new uniform reveal by the end of the year. Just days after that, Neha LM Tripathi from Hindustan Times broke a news in which she claimed that Air India has partnered with Manish Malhotra for designing new cabin crew uniform.
Manish Malhotra is a famous Indian designer and as a result of which, hopes were high from the airline. And it seems that both Air India & Manish Malhotra did a perfect job.
Say yes to Saree
The airline has decided to continue with saree as a part of cabin crew uniform. Earlier, there were reports that the airline might discontinue sarees. Sarees, on one hand signifies the traditions of India while on the other hand, is an uncomfortable dress specially during long haul flights like Delhi & Mumbai to USA.
Still, the airline decided to continue with the saree. The aubergine color from Vistara has been well integrated with this new uniform. In the livery as well, there are few elements of Vistara aubergine. Here as well, the aubergine is present.
The ready-to-wear sarees can optionally be paired with cozy pants, giving the female cabin crew more freedom to choose the look that best suits their personal preferences and creating a distinctive East meets West aesthetic. These saree features the Jharokha & Vista Logo of Air India.
There are two types of sarees : one with major red color & other with major aubergine color. Senior cabin crew will wear the aubergine themed saree while junior cabin crew will wear the Red themed saree.
Here, you can see the uniforms of male cabin crew.
What about Pilot uniforms?
Pilot uniforms are also changed. The classic black double-breasted suit worn by the cockpit crew is emblazoned with a Vista-inspired print, which represents professionalism, agelessness, and the gravity of the aviation industry.
The airline earlier used to have a red tie, which has been discontinued now. You can have a look at pilot uniforms in pic below.

I feel privileged to have been offered the chance to create the Air India uniforms. Being able to support the national flag-bearer and exhibit the grace and allure of Indian fashion is an honor. My goal was to design uniforms that both embodied a contemporary and elegant style and captured the spirit of India’s rich cultural diversity. I hope that by using traditional Indian colors, these uniforms will not only make the crew feel proud but also make a lasting impression on the visitors, embodying the friendliness and hospitality that India is renowned for.
