Air India has started non-stop flights between Mumbai and Melbourne giving both cities a long awaited connection. Air India is the first ever airline to introduce non-stop flights on this route. In this article, we are going to discuss about this route.
Mumbai to Melbourne by Air India
Air India on October 31 announced that it has partnered with Allan Labor Government in Australia to launch direct flights between Mumbai and Melbourne. With effect from 15th December, the airline has launched these non-stop flights. It will operate 3X weekly on Wednesday, Friday & Sunday with the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. On 15th December, Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner registered as VT-ANW operated the maiden flight on this route.

AI 310 : The B787 departs Mumbai airport at 00:50 hrs and arrives at Melbourne Airport at 18:10 hrs.
AI 311 : After a 1 hour 50 minutes halt, the aircraft departs Melbourne at 20:00 and arrives at Mumbai at 02:35 hrs of next morning.
Air India is the only airline to operate on this route. This route is generally very busy in terms of traffic and there are rumours that the airline will soon increase its frequency.
Air India Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer, Nipun Aggrawal said that – We are excited to begin operating Melbourne’s only nonstop route between Mumbai and Melbourne. This is a significant advancement in our ongoing transformation program, which among other things seeks to increase the number of non-stop flights connecting India with the rest of the world.
On the other hand, Minister of Jobs & Industry of Victoria State Government of Australia Natalie Hutchins expressed her excitement over the first direct flight from Mumbai to Melbourne. In addition to increasing tourism and generating jobs locally, this new route will give Victorian businesses additional access to one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.
