Surat to Dubai by Air India Express
Today, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the international terminal building at Surat International Airport. Yes, international airport, you heard it right. A union cabinet headed by Indian PM Narendra Modi has approved the proposal to declare Surat Airport as an International Airport.
With this inauguration, one more milestone has been set by Air India Express as the airline operated the first ever non-stop flight between Surat International Airport and Dubai International Airport. The ceremony was attended by Chief Executive Officer of Air India Express, Mr Aloke Singh who handed over boarding pass to the first passenger. There were 171 passengers onboard the aircraft.
The flight departed Surat Airport at 11:54 AM and landed at Dubai International Airport at 01:15 PM. This flight was operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8 registered as VT-BXD. This aircraft wears the new Air India Express livery. At the time of writing this article, the aircraft is flying back from Dubai to Surat as IX174. It departed Dubai International Airport at 02:44 PM.
International debut for B737 MAX
For Air India Express, this flight created one more milestone. Since delivery, all 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 of Air India Express are operating on domestic sectors. Not a single Boeing 737 MAX 8 flew internationally. Today, the flight between Surat and Dubai was operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 registered as VT-BXD. This was the first international commercial service for VT-BXD. Not just BXD, this was the first ever international revenue flight for the MAX 8 fleet of Air India Express.
The MAX fleet of Air India Express hold specific significance as it consists of Vista Premium Economy cabin, which gives passengers that additional comfort apart from various facilities.
Air India Express is the only airline connecting Surat internationally. The airline operates 5X weekly service between Surat and Sharjah.
Scheduled Surat-Dubai flights?
The Surat to Delhi flight operated by Air India Express was just single flight. There are no flights scheduled apart for this one. However, the airline has assured that it will soon start 4 times weekly services between Surat and Dubai. Bookings are available on the website but gaining information about the exact schedule seems difficult.
Regarding the same, CEO Aloke Singh stated, “I am thrilled that we are a part of the moment when Surat International Airport is growing and unveiling its new terminal. Surat holds great importance for Air India Express as we expand our network on the back of a new fleet.”
Furthermore, he stated that the airline is dedicated to giving travelers a seamless flying experience and will support Surat’s economic development.
