As Air India Express receives back-to-back deliveries of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the airline is expanding its presence from Hyderabad Airport. The airline is expanding on both domestic and international fronts. Times of Aviation recently published an article stating the planned international expansion of Air India Express to Saudi Arabia. Now, the airline has announced the expansion of its domestic network from Hyderabad.
Hyderabad: Air India Express Expansion
Since Air India Express revealed its new identity, it has consistently increased its presence at Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD). In November month, Air India Express connected Hyderabad to Amritsar, Kochi, and Lucknow. It launched daily flights on all these routes with effect from November 17, 2023. It also added flights between Hyderabad and Gwalior.
Now, the airline has announced its plan to connect Hyderabad to three more Indian cities. This time, the airline will connect the airport to Trivandrum, Varanasi, and Chennai.

A close look at other airlines operating on these routes clearly shows that IndiGo is willing to take on IndiGo head-on in the domestic front.
On Hyderabad to Chennai, IndiGo operates 10X daily flights. Other airlines include Alliance Air, AIX Connect, and SpiceJet. Alliance Air operates twice daily flights. Both SpiceJet and AIX Connect operate 1X daily flights each. With AIX Connect all set to merge into Air India Express, the airline will jointly operate 11X weekly flights on this route.
Talking about Hyderabad to Trivandrum route, IndiGo is the only operator on this route. It operates 13 times weekly flights using the Airbus A320neo. A similar case with the Varanasi route, where IndiGo enjoys a clear monopoly with 14X weekly flights. SpiceJet also operates thrice-weekly flights on this route.
On the international front, Air India Express will soon connect Hyderabad to two Saudi Arabian cities – Dammam and Riyadh. The airport is slowly becoming the South India base for Air India Express.
