Dubai Air Show 2023 is concluded. Here is a quick look at all the major orders placed by airlines. Lets take a look one by one.
Emirates order
The biggest highlight of this edition of Dubai Air Show was the order of UAE flag carrier Emirates. The airline has ordered following jets :
- 15 Airbus A350-900
- 55 Boeing 777-9X
- 35 Boeing 777-8X
- 20 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
- 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner
The airline is anticipating delivery of first Boeing 777X in 2025. First Airbus A350-900 expected to arrive in August 2024. CEO Tim Clark announced that the airline will withhold ordering the Airbus A350-1000 variant until the engine issues disappear.
FlyDubai order
Sister airline of Emirates, FlyDubai also ordered a surprising jet in this Air Show. The airline has been a narrowbody operator since a long time. However, it is looking to turn tables & enter into the widebody market. The airline has ordered 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets. This is the first time that FlyDubai will be operating a widebody jet.

Ethiopian Airlines order
The second biggest shopping in this Air Show was done by Ethiopian flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines. Ethiopian Airlines has gone for the following jets :
- 11 Airbus A350-900
- 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets with 20 options
- 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets with 15 options
The Dreamliner order includes a mix of Boeing 787-8 & Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets. Also, this Dreamliners will be equipped with new interiors. It is already operating a fleet of all these aircraft.

EgyptAir order
EgyptAir signed 2 deals in this edition of Dubai Air Show. The airline signed a lease agreement with Air Lease Corporation (ALC) for 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets. It has also signed an order with Airbus for 10 Airbus A350-900 jets. This Airbus A350 order comes as an additon & not as a replacement.

SCAT Airlines order
The Kazakhstan based SCAT Airlines has also made a small order of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline which operates a fleet of 32 Boeing 737 aircraft is looking to launch more European flights. It has opted for 7 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets. SCAT Airlines is already operating a fleet of 3 Boeing 737 MAX 8 & 5 Boeing 737 MAX 9 jets.

Abelo Aviation order
Irish lessor Abelo Aviation has signed a follow up order of ATR 72 turboprop aircraft. The lessor has opted for 20 ATR 72-600 aircraft – 10 firm & 10 options. In 2022, the lessor ordered 10 ATR 72 & 10 ATR 42 Short Takeoff & Landing Aircraft. The lessor is anticipating delivery of first ATR by the end of this year. Delivery of new order will be done between 2026 & 2028.

SunExpress order
Turkey based airline – SunExpress has signed a purchase agreement for 90 Boeing 737 MAX. This includes 45 firm & 45 options. Out of this 45 firm order, 28 are Boeing 737 MAX 8. Rest 17 are Boeing 737 MAX 10. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery between 2029 & 2035. Approximate value of this Boeing 737 MAX order is estimated to be $5 billion. The airline is planning to have a fleet of 150 aircraft by 2033. Currently, it has a fleet of 60 Boeing 737 jets.

Air Baltic order
Air Baltic finds the Airbus A220-300 quite interesting. The airline has opted for more narrowbody jets. It has signed order for 50 Airbus A220-300 jets. This order includes 30 firm & 20 options. Latvia flag carrier already operates a fleet of 44 A220 jets. In 2016, Air Baltic was the launch customer of Airbus A220. By 2020, whole fleet consisted of only A220s as the airline phased out the Boeing 737 & Bombardier Dash 8 from its fleet. With the order of 30 more jets, the orderbook of the airline now stands at 80.

Royal Jordanian order
Royal Jordanian Airlines has also signed a mini order for Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jet. The airline has placed order for 4 more Boeing 787-9 jets. With this, it has increased its order from 2 to 6. As part of the agreement, Boeing Global Services will also provide modification services for Royal Jordanian’s in service Boeing 787 jets.

Royal Air Maroc order
Royal Air Maroc, the flag carrier of Morocco has placed an order for 2 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets. The airline also signed agreement with General Electric Aerospace for 4 GEnx-1B engines. Royal Air Maroc already has a fleet of 9 Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Out of this, 5 are -8 variant & remaining 4 are -9 variant.
